Where The Crawdads Sing by Delia Owens

My rating: 5 of 5 stars
Ok wow. This was my last book to read for 2018 and what a way to end the year! I wasn't sure at first because this isn't really my "usual genre" and the hype around this novel was so huge that I was worried I would be disappointed if it didn't live it up to it. But by about 20 pages I was sucked into Kya's world. This book had a bit of everything and although I thought I solved the mystery about 12 different times: I was wrong. Totally wrong. Delia Owens painted her characters so perfectly. They are all memorable- even the ones you want to punch in the face and forget about forever. The marsh lands were described in a way I could picture myself there. I went through so many emotions- which is always a good sign of a great book. And most importantly, at the end I felt satisfied. I wasn't left thinking "That's it?" or "Wow, that ending was lame/rushed/dumb." I think it was brilliantly written, emotional, compelling, and the surrounding hype is well-deserved.
