Then She Was Gone by Lisa Jewell
My rating: 4 of 5 stars
This was one of those books that I simply could not put down. Not because the writing was amazing, but because I *needed* all the answers! It was a bit predictable. Even though I didn't realize it, I had figured out a chunk of it early in. But there was still missing pieces and twists I didn't see coming. This book flowed nicely, and was different, edgy, and thoroughly enjoyable- even though it was revolving around a dark subject. The characters were well-developed. My heart felt for Laurel, and the lack of desire to really *live* after her daughter went missing. Her grief was palpable. Grief really does break you in ways you don't see coming. The way the grief fractured every tiny bit of her family's life was very real. The story is sad, but not to where I was left feeling bummed. And I am thankful the author gave closure. I'm not a fan of cliffhangers. Overall I give this 4 out of 5 stars.
